摘要

The contribution presents an assessment of a novel DES-based approach for a separated flow over a delta wing. The new approach denoted as σ-DES aims to enhance RANS-to-LES transition in separated shear layers, which is known to be a considerable challenge for standard DES (this problem is sometimes referred to as the "grey area"). Results are presented for RANS, standard DDES and the new σ-DDES. A comparison is also drawn to extensive experimental data, including surface pressure distribution and wake topology (captured via PIV and hotwire). Results give a strong indication that the new σ-DES approach significantly improves predictive accuracy of the DES method over standard DES without sacrificing its non-zonal character and at comparable computational cost.
