IEC 61400-3 (2009) and GL Offshore guideline (2012) are twocommonly adopted guidelines for certification of offshore windturbines worldwide. Comparison of load calculation duringnormal and idling situations between these two guidelines isperformed in this paper. The NREL 5 MW wind turbine withmonopile support structure is selected as the reference windturbine system. Study of the impact on the loading conditions isconducted in this paper. Design load case (DLC) 1, 6, and 7 areconsidered in this work and the focus is on the Class I systemwith different turbulence characteristics (category A, B, and C).Both of extreme and fatigue loads are derived at criticalcomponents such as blade, shaft, tower, and foundation. Themajor impact is investigated and identified in this paper.
