Simulation of Breaking Wave Impact on a Vertical Wall with a Compressible Two-Phase Flow Model

A compressible multiphase flow solver twoPhaseEulerFoam was used to simulate breaking wave impact on a vertical wall. It is one of the component solvers included in the open-source CFD library OpenFOAM. Both air and water-air mixture are treated as compressible fluids, whilst the free surface is handled by a volume of fluid (VOF) method with bounded compression techniques. The unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are solved by a pressure-based method PIMPLE to couple the pressure and velocity fields. With suitable predefined initial conditions, different types of wave impact on a vertical wall have been produced. The results for pressure distribution and velocity field near the impact area have been analyzed.
