The submarine pipeline in earthquake prone area should consider theeffect of seismic load, but the criteria of seismic design have not beenformed around the world. Therefore, the numerical model of pipe-soilinteraction is established based on linear elastic theory in hemiindefinitespace, in which the seabed and the pipeline are modeled withsolid element and shell element respectively. Then the dynamicresponse under El-Centro wave is analyzed by ABAQUS and theeffects of variable earthquake characteristic, coefficient of friction andburied depth of pipeline are discussed. The results present thatlongitudinal earthquake with acceleration higher than 0.10g shall not beignored, the pipeline shall be buried with more than 2 meters deep anda loose to medium granular soil without cobbles or boulders shall be asuitable backfill material.
