PATERNALISTIC LEADERSHIP AND CABIN CREW'S VOICE BEHAVIOR

Cabin crew members are essential in the development of the airline industry. Their priority one duty is to guard cabin security and ensure the execution of safety regulations. However, there has been limited research devoted to studying cabin crew's organizational behavior and job performance related topics, focusing on safety domain in particular. Being the frontline operators, flight attendants constantly obtain and collect the first-hand information from the interaction with passengers and other crew members. Their experience and observation may contribute greatly to the airlines safety management and policy making, it is thus critical to learn how to enhance cabin crew's voice behavior through specific leadership styles. The current research aims at the flight attendants working for Taiwanese international airlines. The paternalistic leadership style, which has been prevalently observed in the oriental society, is adopted to learn how it may impact cabin crew's voice behavior. This research is expected to answer the following major question: How paternalistic leadership styles may impact cabin crew's voice behavior? Regression analysis will be applied to analyze the empirical data collected by the questionnaire survey. The results may provide airlines with the practical references for constituting human resource management policies, as well as be beneficial to enhance the existing literature regarding management applications and organizational safety behaviors.
