This paper highlights recent developments in application of geophysics to soft ground geotechnical engineering. In particular emphasis is given to improving the confidence in the use of geophysics by showing how very useful information can be obtained on ground structure and in estimating of geotechnical parameters directly from geophysics. For example GPR can accurately profile peat thickness and inform on internal peat structure, thus providing valuable information for landslide studies. Similarly resistivity is very useful in quick clay landslide studies due to the strong correlation with salt content. Surface wave techniques, such as MASW, can provide economic and accurate profiles shear wave velocity provided care is taken with data interpretation. Very good correlations were obtained between V_s and various 1D compression parameters and undrained shear strength.
