There is now more demands on the manufacturing of complex structure and non-uniform wall thickness casting, short period and low cost manufacturing with mould, high dimensional accuracy and possible manufacturing of good designs with complex curved surfaces. The engine casting part manufacturing processes need high quality, less resource consumption and environmental protection. According to the requirements, digital sand-mold machining process is developed in China academy of machinery & technology. It is used for sand mold manufacturing and brings a new green and rapid way, which adapts to the competitive environment and brings out momentous changes. Some case studies are specialized in this paper. The method, avoiding pattern manufacturing, eliminating work steps and reducing allowance, is suitable for single and mini-batch casting production, especially for the fabrication of large and complex casting. It is a typical green casting process with energy saving and pollution/waste reduction.
