In order to acquire high quality aluminum alloy castings, the foundrymen have paid more attentions to find out new methods to measure hydrogen content of aluminum melt in front of the furnace. Among various methods, the methods based on Sievert's law are common and the key technology is to fast determine the hydrogen partial pressure of aluminum melt. The authors invented a novel method with which the hydrogen adsorbed in aluminum melt is inhaled and exhaled by a variable volume vacuum chamber and the hydrogen partial pressure can be determined within a short time, so the method is called Dynamic Breath Method (DBM). The novel method can save not only the measuring time but also the measuring cost because of its dynamic determination technic. In the paper, the principle of the novel method, the measuring system based on the novel method and the application results were introduced in detail.
