A Workability Test for Slip Formed Concrete Pavements

摘要

Evaluating the workability of concrete pavements prior to paving with the mixture ischallenging. In this paper a novel test method is developed that measures the response of theconcrete to vibration and the ability to hold an edge. The test is simple, economical, and can becompleted in the laboratory or in the field. Results are presented to compare repeatability of themethod with single and multiple operators and the impact of single versus sequential dosages ofwater reducer. Comparisons are also made between the test method and a slip formed paver.Finally, results are presented to show how the method can be used to investigate the impacts ofaggregate gradation on the workability of slip formed paving mixtures.
