Integration of the power produced by renewable energy sources to the sectors such as heat, electricity, and gas has been found beneficial. Furthermore, different energy storage strategies can be economical and useful for the efficient utilization of renewable energy. In this paper, planning of the new settlement area is focused on considering a high photovoltaic generation, sector coupling technologies (power to heat), and different designs of battery storage systems. The distributed storage system (DSS) and district quarter storage (DQS) system have been compared. In the DSS, every individual house has its own storage to store electrical energy and use it later. In the DQS, there is one storage unit for the entire settlement. An optimal strategy of storage design and operation in settlements for the efficient utilization of renewable energy is proposed.
