There has recently been considerable attention drawn to a two dimensional layer of carbon known as graphene because of its extensive research properties concerning electricity and mechanics. An improved Hummers method has been used to synthesis graphene oxide from coal sample. Structural and physiochemical properties of the products were investigated with the help of ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), Thermal Gravity Analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). All the results indicate the successful synthesis of GO and give a promising potential utilization of coal.
