Different chemical surface modification methods were carried out on PDMS un-pattemed films. From the contact angle, FTIR and SEM data, the plasma treatment with PVA coating group was found to have the desired results. Hence this method was further used on patterned substrates that would subsequently be used for cellular study applications. Cell proliferation profiles show that different cell types prefer different substrate composition, chemistry and hydrophilicity. Detailed research into the cellular mechanisms that decide on this preference is desirable and of much benefit to the scientific community.
