The construction of a new high power double circuit 400 kV overhead transmission lineis facing numerous, virulent and effective oppositions.To show and to guarantee the technical conformity and then to reduce the visual impactsof the overhead lines on the landscape are not enough for settling the oppositions.Rte imagined a new approach which aims to associate the stakeholders of the specificterritory by enabling them to choose the kind of line to build.Of course, the choice is based on designs which, while being different and in break withthe past practices, have to meet at best with all the expectations of the local residents, thesociety in general, the regulator and finally Rte.A clarification and a filing of the various expectations are proposed.Three designs meeting in a original way this field of constraints were developed:1. "UniveRte" created in association with the industrial designer Frédéric Simon,2. "SYNERGY" created in association with the industrial designer Olivier Frenoy,3. "EQUILIBRE" created in association with the architect Hugh Dutton.These designs belong to Rte.This approach was applied, successfully at the moment, to the construction project of anew high power double circuit 400 kV overhead transmission line between Arras andLille.The design which was chosen by the stakeholders of “la Pévèle”, “le bassin minier” and“l’arrageois” (three territories crossed by the new overhead transmission line) is the"EQUILIBRE" design.
