Practical approach to the technical specification of IEC 61850 systems

For any company that operates a network of high voltage transmission, maintaining and improving theservice is of vital importance to its business. At the same time, it will always be intended to reduce theoperating cost. To get closer to these goals the normalization of engineering, processes and systems isan essential tool. In this sense the IEC 61850 standard provides great potential for furtherdevelopments in this field.In this work, the guidelines and general conditions for the implementation and development ofprojects which include implementations in TRANSENER with IEC 61850 are discussed. That is tosay, it will be discussed how to achieve the best adaptation of the SAS to the company's philosophy.For this will be a study from three different points of view namely, a) from the needs of the user interms of project, operation and maintenance, b) from the possibilities offered by the internationalstandards, mainly IEC 61850, and c) from the solutions that provide the manufacturers now.Participants will discuss the alternatives that meet the three approaches and best suited to thecommercial exploitation of the power system. For this task will be special emphasis on those aspectsthat may be more illustrative.
