SOME EXCEPTIONAL PROPERTIES OF BULK NANOSTRUCTURED STEEL

The majority of studies of nanostructured metals begin with the aim of enhancing the strength simultaneously with ductility. In this paper I review some special properties of a now well-established bulk nanostructured steel that is commercially available in huge quantities and dimensions. Thus, percolation of phases, the permeation of hydrogen through the mixture of phases, the crystal symmetries and aspects of tribology are discussed, together with itemization of some of the serious limitations of the structure.
