A new approach is described for closed-loop optimal control with the use of fuzzy logic. In this paper exact open-loop optimal control data are used to generate fuzzy rules for closed-loop optimal guidance law in homing missiles. The Fuzzy Logic Guidance (FLG) law is then used effectively in a real-time feedback guidance method. The details and efficacy of this approach will be demonstrated for different scenarios with comparison of trajectories obtained by the optimal, fuzzy and proportional navigation guidance (PNG) solutions. Simulation results show that the FLG method can efficiently produce optimal feedback trajectories in spite of its relatively simple architecture and the performance of the FLG is significantly superior over the PNG in most simulation runs.
