INVESTIGATIONS OF GROUND INFRASTRUCTURES FOR UAS FLIGHT MONITORING

This article deals with the investigation of ongroundinfrastructures to be exploited tomonitor Unmanned Aerial Systems during theiroperations. In particular, this work evaluatesthe usefulness of a radar technology to beinstalled in an airport facility. Simulationanalyses have been carried out considering theinstallation of Primary Surveillance Radar,Secondary Surveillance Radar and ADS-B.Then, in order to ensure the economic viabilityof these infrastructures, the impact on civilaviation monitoring activities has beenevaluated. Eventually, for the selected referencecase, located in Northern part of Italy, the ADSBis proposed, taking also into account theresults and the future trend already suggestedby several other European Research projectsfocused on airspace integration.
