CANADA'S ONGOING ROLE IN GLOBAL MEDICAL ISOTOPE SUPPLY

For more than sixty years, Canada has been at the forefront of research and development, technology, and production of medical isotopes. The combination of a strong national nuclear R&D program, innovation from industry and an ongoing commitment to safety and security has created a leadership position envied by many. Despite the many challenges associated with manufacturing a product that is not only radioactive, but in many cases subject to medical regulations and shipping this product around the world, Canada's stronghold in terms of technology and expertise actually positions us quite well to continue growing our international presence. Canada is now at a turning point, and must make critical decisions regarding the future of both the nuclear R&D and power generation infrastructure, which will ultimately affect the country's ability to remain competitive in the medical isotope field. Only through ongoing investment and supporting policy will we continue to be able to contribute in such a meaningful way to not only the lives of Canadians, but to millions of people around the world.
