The Marsokhod Field Experiment perofrmed in Silver Lake, California, was designed to test the use of a "robotic geologist" for future unmanned Mars missions. The University of Hawaii's Airborne Hyperspectral Imager was included in the experiment to provide geologic context inforamtion. The AHI sensor was flown over a 3 by 3 km area, imaging in the long-wave infrared. The hyperspectral data was then processed with the N-FINDR algorithm to produce estiamtes of constituent material spectra and mineral abundance maps. The derived mineral spectra were identified by comparison to library spectra and found generally consistent with the geology of the area.
