Digital cameras and imaging/non-imaging spectrometers covering the ultraviolet through long-wave infraredwavelengths are readily available and affordable for use by scientists and emergency responders. Animportant addition that will enhance the value of these precision sensors as tools in the hands of scientists andemergency responders is the capability to produce automated geo-registered or ortho-rectified imagery mapsfrom their data. This paper describes the Mapping System Interface Card (MSIC), a low cost, compact, realtimeprecision metadata annotator with embedded INS/GPS designed specifically to convert commercial-offthe-shelf (COTS) sensors with Camera Link standard data streams into mapping systems for airborne remotesensing applications.© (2012) COPYRIGHT Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).
