On-Chip Diagnosis of Celiac Disease by an Amorphous Silicon Chemiluminescence Detector

A novel lab-on-chip device tor the diagnosis of CD and for patient-specific profiling has been successfully designed and fabricated. The device is based on the successful integration of an array of a-Si:H photosensors with functionalized PHEMA polymer brushes on a single substrate. The operation of the fully integrated system relies on the use of CL immunoenzymatic reactions to ensure sensitive and specific response without the need of external radiation sources and optical filters, resulting in a compact device suitable for point-of-care testing. Experimental results demonstrate the effective detection of the target antibodies with a good specificity. Future works will integrate all the epitopes of CD for testing real patient serum.
