This paper proposes a novel fault tolerant control for the double-stator-winding permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) under open phase operation. This key is to fully use the remaining phases of faulty winding to produce torque, while adopting the healthy winding for torque optimization with injection of asymmetric currents. The design of the proposed current references under one-phase open-circuit fault and the fault tolerant control scheme are presented. The proposed method not only realizes the torque ripple elimination as well as copper loss optimization, but also provides the sinusoidal current waveforms in the healthy winding. Both simulation and experiments are given to verify the validity of the proposed fault tolerant control method.
