This paper presents an end inductance coefficient function L, which aims at solving the problem that the end inductance of switched reluctance motor (SRM) is difficult to calculate. Firstly, a two-dimensional (2-D) and a three-dimensional (3-D) finite element analysis (FEA) model of the motor are built to acquire the inductance difference under different motor structure and working conditions. Secondly, the end inductance coefficient function is obtained according to simulation results and it is used to modify the inductance of 2-D FEA model. Finally, torque characteristics of 3-D FEA model and modified 2-D FEA model are compared by simulation, the correctness of the proposed method is verified. The modified 2-D FEA model simulation is able to make the calculation results more accurate, and avoid the complexity of 3-D modeling with greatly time saving. Experimental verification is carried out on a 40kW four-phase 16/12 pole SRM.
