A New Doubly Salient Brushless DC Generator with Harmonic Field Winding for High-Speed Operation

This paper proposes a new doubly salient brushless DC (DSBLDC) generator with the harmonic field winding in order to restrain the field-winding-induced voltage. The mechanism of field-winding-induced voltage generated in the conventional DSBLDC generator is discussed. Then the structure and operation principle of the proposed DSBLDC generator with harmonic field winding is given. The operation performance is analyzed by the finite element method (FEM). The result shows that the current of the harmonic field winding has little influence on the output performance of the main generator (MG) part, and the field-winding-induced voltage can be suppressed effectively. The rectified DC output of the harmonic generator (HG) part can supply electrical power to the system controller. Therefore, the control performance and reliability as well as the efficiency of the power generation system with dual terminal outputs are improved during high-speed operation.
