摘要

Japanese society is aging rapidly, and by 2060, it is expected that 1 in 2.5 people will be over the age of 65, and households comprised solely of the elderly are increasing.Day Service Centers support the elderly to live independently at home by providing them with help in their daily care and rehabilitation services.Day Service Centers play a large role in society helping the elderly "reduce feelings of isolation".For this research we surveyed 1,753 Day Service Centers in the Tokyo 23 wards.Based on facility capacity, we categorized facilities into small facilities and medium/large facilities. We identified that small facilities are increasing in recent years, that many of these are stand-alone facilities not setup near other elderly welfare facilities, and that there are often differences in the space structure of facilities based on their size.Further we surveyed programs held in the facilities, and the furniture arrangement of day rooms, where facility users spend a lot of their time, and identified issues with day rooms.
