EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON FIRE BEHAVIORS OF SEISMIC DAMAGED RC COLUMNS

Cyclic loading test was conducted first to produce seismic damage in eight concrete specimens,and then the eight damaged specimens and one undamaged control specimen were subjected to fire.The test variables include intended drift ratio, axial load ratio, transverse reinforcement ratio, and shear span ratio of the columns in the specimens.From the experimental investigations, it is found that: (a) when both the drift ratio and axial load ratio are large enough to produce severe seismic damage in reinforced concrete columns, the fire resistance of the damaged columns are obviously weakened;(b) lower axial load ratio leads to longer fire endurance and larger thermal elongation for the seismic damaged columns;(c) the influence of transverse reinforcement ratio on the fire behaviors of seismic damaged columns is very limited;and (d) lower shear span ratio results in marginally better fire performances of the seismic damaged columns.
