Evaluation of Exposed HDPE Geomembranes under Tropical Climate

Geosynthetic liners High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) geomembranes have been commonly used to line water ponds and reservoirs for decades. The paper presents an evaluation of high density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembrane material that was installed in two water containments In Asia. After years of service and exposure to the tropical climate, geomembrane samples were evaluated for physical property integrity and engineering performance. The laboratory test results presented in this paper demonstrate that after 10 to 20 years in active service, HDPE geomembrane liners are working in their desired function and performance under exposed condition.
