To improve the fuel economic character of bus, a hydraulic accumulator-type braking energy regeneration system is designed. Hydraulic accumulator was designed for braking energy storage. Hydraulic pump/motor was aimed at braking energy recovery and regeneration conversion. Electromagnetic clutch is a device used to mechanical connection and control. The composing scheme of electronic control system is proposed, sensors are equipped with the bus to detect the operation state of system, the electronic control unit (ECU) was for the use of achieving the operation control of each actuator. The classification of operating modes for the hydraulic accumulator type braking energy regeneration system was presented, the system operation modes were classified into five kinds according to operating conditions and parameters. Braking energy regeneration system of bus was operated in the safe operation and improved the bus braking energy recovery rate and recycling rate by operation pattern recognition and control of the electronic control system. Results show that the method of operation pattern recognition and control can improve fuel consumption, and reduce exhaust emissions, noise efficiently.
