Satisfaction Changes Over Time Among Dentists with Outpatient Electronic Medical Record

Objective: To evaluate the changes of dentists' satisfaction with newly deployed outpatient Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system over time in a large teaching hospital in China. Design: A repeated cross-sectional survey was conducted with two rounds of data collection: 2 months post-EMR implementation and 8 months post-EMR implementation. Questionnaires were distributed to dentists working on dental chair and filled out anonymously. The mean and standard deviation (SD) of the satisfaction scores between two round surveys were analyzed. Results: 74 respondents from 81 filled out the survey at the first round, and 48 respondents from 52 filled out at the second round. The mean satisfaction scores from the second round were significantly higher than those from the first one. There were also differences among different types of departments. Conclusion and Discussion: The results suggested that there was a tough time at the initial stage of outpatient EMR implementation. We also found that end-user satisfaction with outpatient EMR improved over time.
