The Tranquility Base project is a key element of a proposed National Science Centre in the UK. The proposal to have simulated living spaces, laboratorjes and support facilities of a lunar base will demand innovative architectural development. In this paper, the concept of 'sense of place' is explored to encourage discussion and enquiry into issues of sustainability and habitability which will need to be considered in designing and operating Tranquility Base as well as planning for a real human outpost on the Moon.
