Fusion-east refractories continue to be the preferred choice for lining of glass melting furnaces. However, the grow ing imperative to reduce manufacturing cost has caused the glass industry to take more interest in the bonded (also known as sintered) refractories. Such refractories can be made by different methods, such as traditional dry pressing, iso-pressing and vibro-casting. This paper compares the performance of fusion-cast and bonded refractories in laboratory tests.
