In this paper, we propose an iterative method, which is based on the orthogonal Riesz sequence calculation and truncation, to construct the localized pulse shapes for multicarrier modulation subject to an arbitrarily given length constraint. Numerical results demonstrate that the pulse shapes generated by this method, under certain settings, do converge to the known short perfect reconstruction (PR) prototype filters with the optimal time-frequency localization (TFL) property, whose coefficients are obtained from independently derived closed-form expressions. Moreover, the flexibility of the proposed method along with its efficiency makes it be a promising technique for the pulse shape design for future OFDM-based communication systems.
