In recent years, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has dedicatedsignificant effort to formalize its training program for domestic inspectors, termed theInspector Training Qualification Program (ITQP). Launched in 2009, the program isbased on centralized, standardized training and qualification for CNSC inspectors,followed by service line-specific and on-the-job training relevant to an inspector’sparticular area of work. This paper will provide an overview of the CNSC’s conceptualapproach to inspector training in general, including a description of the ITQP. The focusof the paper will then turn to training measures for domestic safeguards inspectors, whichare currently under development.
