Variable Inlet Guide Vanes (VIGVs) are often used to control centrifugal compressors with constant spool speed. This paper (part 2) focuses on numerical studies on a 2D VIGV airfoil cascade, which were performed in order to support the evaluation and analysis of the experimental results at the High Speed Cascade Wind Tunnel, presented in part 1. A detailed validation of the numerical approach and setup is conducted to substantiate future performance predictions and numerical airfoil optimizations. The 2D airfoil cascade is investigated at varying stagger angles and Reynolds numbers. A focus is put in particular on the impact of free stream turbulence and its interaction with transition phenomena, due to their strong influence on the loss generation, especially at low Reynolds numbers.
