In high-power applications, current-source rectifiers are still popular due to their simple topology, robustness and nearly sinusoidal grid current. They can be also operated with unity or variable power factor. In this way, the rectifier can serve as a power factor compensator. Beside this, they directly control load current which makes them sufficient for direct supply of DC motor. However, the significant disadvantage of the common CSR topology is that they are not able to change load current direction — they operate only in two quadrants. In this paper, three phase space vector modulated four quadrant active current-source rectifier with DFT based power factor control for dc motor drive is introduced. Developed control algorithm is widely described and its behavior verified by simulation study.
