Body schema (BS) modification is vital activity for spatial cognition and unconsciously modified while using a tool or driving a vehicle in daily life. Hence, an establishment to evaluate the BS modification will be useful for support of human spatial cognitive skill. The current study investigated potential brain cortex areas relating the BS using the visual-proprioceptive mismatch task and presents a suitable index to detect the BS modification for the near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) measurement. As a result, it was confirmed that a new index computing a ratio of the oxy-hemoglobin rCBF variation at the inferior parietal lobule was adequate for the detection (Kruskal-Wallis: ). These outcomes will be helpful for a real-time evaluation and its support of the BS modification which is human ability of spatial cognition.
