APPLICATION FOR SCHEDULING COURSES FOR CURRENT AND TRANSFER STUDENTS AT TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY

This paper presents Optimal Scheduling Application (OSA), software developed by the authors,which supports the School academic advisor on the task of scheduling the academic load for currentand transfer students. OSA is based on the linear programing formulation of an AssemblyLine Balancing Problem. OSA is developed using Xpress, a mathematical modeling and optimizationsoftware. Through a Graphical Interface OSA accepts the semester the student starts,the courses he/she needs to take and the number of semesters he/she expects to complete his/herdegree. OSA produces a schedule that minimizes and balances the number of credits taken persemester.
