The liquid-infused, NO releasing cannulas provide physiological levels of NO for up to 7 d and are stable during shelf storage at room temperature. The liquid-infused, NO-releasing polymer shows great promise to improving the biocompatibility of insulin infusion cannulas by reducing local inflammation and infection. This study demonstrates the potential of the NO-releasing polymers combined with antifouling surfaces to improve biocompatibility of insulin infusion sets and various other biomedical device applications.
