The three materials studied meet basic requirements of biocompatibility and printability; however, significant differences in printed part mechanics indicates potential benefits unique to each composition. In particular, the mechanical stability, faster degradation time, and low modulus may be particularly meaningful for use in tissue engineering scaffolds where increased compliance coupled with improved creep performance are beneficial. In particular with Lactoflex? 7415, a Young's modulus of almost half of PLA coupled with better creep performance compared to PCL are important advances for scaffold materials.
