The idea behind this project was to present a solution for increasing the efficiency of modern agriculture by implementing new technological advances. The designed system can prevent wasting water when irrigating fields by measuring soil and air humidity, as well as ambient air temperature. The solutions implemented enable the system to consume as little power as possible, almost eliminating standby losses, which makes the system perfect for remote, off-grid locations. Finally, with the implementation of SMS data forwarding, the need to manually collect the data has been eliminated, thus also removing the need to hire additional workers. Eliminating standby losses has effectively halved the amount of energy the system uses, which prolongs battery life and reduces the size (and therefore cost) of a solar panel needed for powering it. The system is robust and requires next to no manual labor to run and maintain it, therefore it has the potential to greatly reduce the environmental impact agriculture has, as well as the price of agricultural goods.
