An integrated jacking and shoring support system was developed to not only actas temporary support for jacking the existing girders but also act as the shoringfor the pier cap concrete. This new system includes three integrated parts: thevertical steel pipes, the horizontal self-balanced tie-rods collar system, and thetie-rod suspended platform. The steel pipes functioned as the supports to theplatform and the temporary bearings. The self-balanced tie-rods collar systemwas used to provide the stability to the 28m (92 feet) high support steel pipe toavoid the use of massive shoring towers. In addition, the tie-rod suspendedplatform is developed not only to support the pier cap pouring but also toprovide the added lateral stability to the support pipes.
