Light trapping via surface patterning of PV module frontsheets is a well-known technology to increaseconversion efficiencies. This study examines the effect of surface patterning on energy output of c-Si PV modules forpatterned poly-carbonate films adhered onto glass frontsheets of the modules. The patterned films were found toimprove energy generation over a range of incidence angles. PV module performance as a function of incident anglefor patterned films was compared against that with un-patterned films, as well as without films (control). An estimateof outdoor energy yield was also calculated using recorded irradiance data and solar position data from three sampledays in Denver, USA. Patterned films provided up to 1% increase in energy yield compared with a control withoutfilm.
