A complex hydrography and hydrodynamic system could be observedas the ACC passes through the South American Continent and FalklandIslands. Assuming the conditions of the air-sea interactions are similaron both sides of the South American Continent, and the characteristicsof the southwest Atlantic Ocean is interfered by the El Ni?o. A 28-year(1981-2009) time series of the SST fields derived from NOAA polarorbiter AVHRR was reanalyzed in this study. Estimating the intensityof the ACC inflow, an uncomplicated analysis via SST variation hasbeen used; the correlation coefficients between the ACC and ENSOperiod were calculated from the SST and the MEI. High correlationcoefficients were obtained by adjusting the asynchronous data andusing cross correlation analysis with 4 year time lags and re-sampling.South Georgia has a lag of approximately 6-12 month compared withthe Falkland Islands. The result may suggest that there exists amechanism to trigger both phenomena simultaneously. This will befurther studied in the future.
