From the hydrodynamic point of view, the feasibility of a deepwaterdrilling semi-submersible has been studied for four main deepwater oil& gas areas, i.e. South China Sea (SCS), West Africa, Gulf of Mexico(GOM) and Offshore Brazil. However, as the environmental conditionsof some of these areas have gone through major changes during recentyears and the changes are toward being more severe. In suchcircumstances, a study on the changes of hydrodynamic performanceinduced by the change of environmental conditions has also beeninvestigated. Both frequency domain analysis and non-linear timedomain analysis have been conducted. Such a study will benefit thepractical engineering application for the vessel discussed in the paperand at the same time provides suggestions and references for otherdeepwater drilling semisubmersibles.
