This paper explains an eco-driving support function aimed at improving fuel economy in car navigation systems. The tool aims to improve fuel economy by improving driving practices. Though drivers know how to eco-drive, they do not know how to do so in diverse situations. In this regards, we developed an Eco-MAP function that notifies drivers in an opportune manner of how to operate the accelerator and brakes so as to drive economically in the points to be improved. In verification tests, an improvement in fuel economy was seen when using the Eco-MAP function as drivers carefully operated the accelerator and brakes. From these results, we verify the developed eco-driving support function to be effective towards improving fuel economy.
