The choice of home location is the most important decision in determining one’s transport needs, available transport modes, time used in daily transport and the emissions caused by daily trips. By adding information about mobility and service alternatives to the choice of home location it is possible to cut down the number of car-dependent citizens, optimize public transport supply and most importantly get people to think about their daily trips before they make a decision that determines trips quite permanently. This presentation presents, what kind of mobility information is related to home location, what are the needs and wants of consumers and how the information should be presented. The presentation also shows how the information will be included in the very popular nationwide, commercial apartment sales internet portals in Finland and how the organization, implementation and maintenance are managed. The pre-study, achieved in 2009, resulted that users want to know about mobility alternatives when buying or renting apartment. Also apartment sales portals in Finland are very interested in integrating mobility related information and features in their services. The next phase in 2010, achieved the detailed plan of carrying out the service. In the fall 2010 the Helsinki Region Transport and city of Tampere made agreements with two apartment search portals on building the service. The project is financed using PPP (public private partnership) model. According to agreements the mobility information will be included in the services and presented to consumers in the fall of 2011.
