Resurfacing projects may adversely impact traffic detection at signalized intersections if inductive loops are in place. Temporary VIDS are a solution to minimize the disruption of traffic operations at signalized intersections during resurfacing projects. This paper describes the methodology followed to determine when the installation of temporary VIDS for resurfacing projects might be justified from the economic point of view for three types of intersections.
