DEVELOPMENT OF CAR NAVIGATION SYSTEM BASED ON COMBINATION BETWEEN IN-VEHICLE DEVICE AND SMARTPHONE

In recent years, since the wireless connection to the Internet is widely used with a smartphone, contents and services on the Internet can be easily used everywhere. Such easy way to use them on the Internet is desired for an in-vehicle device in a car. However it is difficult to provide a function to enjoy services and contents on the Internet in the car. This is because a special in-vehicle communication device in the car is required to access the Internet. Additionally, the product life cycle of the in-vehicle device is very long and such long product life prevents it from being updated frequently such as the web service. For that reason, we have developed a new car navigation system that the services and contents on the Internet can be easily used in the car by using the smartphone without the special in-vehicle communication device. This document provides the overview of the new system and the outlook for the future.
