In China, ETC has witnessed substantial advances in the past decade, turning into one mainstream ITS application. As a key issue of ETC, DSRC equipment has always been highlighted in years' debates among manufacturers, operators and administrators. Hopefully, an ETC system should be developed with a first consideration of the trend of standardization. While in real cases, the application conditions count much more. Grounded upon investigations on ETC technologies and the expressway system, this paper manages to demonstrate the challenge of developing DSRC equipments in China and thus to exploit a path for bridging the gap from vision to reality.
