This paper investigates the fundamentals of the Boundary Layer Ingestion phenomena for aircraft, which is one of the possible ways of increasing propulsive efficiency. The BLI effect of energy saving is analysed mainly by using the Power Balance Method introduced by Mark Drela, and the impact on body drag(thrust)is discussed for this highly integrated propulsor installation. The application of the boundary layer ingestion methodology is extended to a conventional tube-wing aircraft configuration. The implications of BLI propulsion for such a configuration is discussed and a novel BLI propulsor is introduced in this paper.
